Apply for a Business License
The Town of Portola Valley Municipal Code requires obtaining a business license and paying the required fees prior to transacting, engaging in, or carrying on any business within the Town.
The Town of Portola Valley offers business license services online. This means that a new business license or a renewal can be obtained using our online system. Payment can be made online by use of e-check or credit card.
Business license applications must be submitted through the online portal. No paper applications will be accepted.

Tips for success.
- Create and account for your business that anyone in your business can access for renewal.
- Make sure you have added your contractors license number.
- Please upload any required documentation such as a copy of your State Contractor License and or an Industrial Stormwater Permit.
- Fill out all items with a * .
When you click submit staff will take 3-5 business days to review the paperwork and fees.
You will be emailed a link to pay the fee after staff review. Please try to submit your application as soon as possible to be approved before the start of any work.

*The Town of Portola Valley Business License Ordinance provides for annual business license renewal only (not prorated) – your Business License is valid from the date of issuance through June 30th of the current fiscal year. There is a two month grace period such that if you obtain/renew your license between May 1 and June 30, your license will expire at the end of the next fiscal year.
