The Woodside Fire Protection District (WFPD, or District) is a special district, independent of Town governance, that provides fire services to Portola Valley, Woodside, and portions of unincorporated San Mateo County (including Los Trancos Woods, Ladera, Vista Verde, Emerald Hills and portions of Skyline Boulevard).

As an independent entity, the WFPD has its own Board of Directors and staff. The District also controls the development of its own fire code, that is typically ratified by the Town Council with local amendments.

The Town and the District are partners in ensuring the safety of the community, and regularly work together to develop new initiatives, provide for vegetation management in the Town’s right-of-way, and create new innovative code to further harden homes, create new defensible space, and hold internal emergency drills.
