Backyard Habitat Program
"Keeping Portola Valley Natural"
In August 2013, the Town's Conservation Committee received approval from the Town Council to implement an award program for residents who leave part of their property open to wildlife, encourage native plants, and discourage invasive species.
The program brings to the forefront two goals that are included in the Town's General Plan, as cited below:
- To preserve and enhance the natural features and open space of the planning area because they are unusual and valuable assets for the planning area, the Peninsula and the entire Bay Area;
- To conserve the rural quality of Portola Valley and maintain the town as an attractive, tranquil, family-oriented residential community for all generations compatible with the many physical constraints and natural features of the area.
Interested residents are encouraged to review the program brochure (see link below) for additional information on how to qualify for an award. Applications to be considered for the award can be downloaded and submitted to the Conservation Committee via Town Hall (765 Portola Road) or via email to conservation@portolavalley.net.
